Guidelines

The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) consists of two sub programmes:

  • The Academic Programme (NFP/AP) offering fellowship for long-term academic studies, leading to Masters and PhD degrees.
  • The Training Programme (NFP/TP) offering fellowships for short-term courses and refresher courses.

Both NFP/AP and  NFP/TP are open to mid-career professionals only (with several years working experiences in the relevant fields)

A candidate must not have received an NFP fellowship or any other fellowship in the three years prior to the start of the proposed programme (MA, SC or PhD).

Criteria for NFP/AP and NFP/TP

  • Preference is given to female candidates. 
  • University students are no longer part of the target group.
  • Catered for Mid Career professionals who are in employment.
  • Applications for a fellowship will only be considered if candidates are nominated and supported by their employers who pledge that the candidate will continue to work at their working place upon their return in the country.
  • Candidates must be proficient in language of instruction. A TOEFL or IELTS score is compulsory.
  • Be in good health.

Procedure: 

  • The candidate seeks admission to the programme to the institutes in the Netherlands by him/herself.
  • When the candidate is admitted to the programme in the Netherlands Institute: a pre-admission letter will be sent to the candidate directly from the Institute.
  • Thereafter the candidate downloads the relevant attached form and is also advised to check updated information about fellowship opportunities, criteria, guidelines and deadlines  from the following website : www.nuffic.nl/nfp 

*Please note: The Economic Affairs Division (EAD)of the Ministry of Finance is the authority finalising the nominations for government officials and employees. Candidates should forward their application and annexes well in advance to the EAD (Telephone 051-9205342) to ensure that their applications are sent to the Embassy well ahead the deadline. 

The other candidates can mail their duly completed and signed application form together with all requested documents a week prior to the official deadline to the Embassy on the following address:

Only hard copies are accepted. Fax, e-mail and advance copies of NFP applications will not be considered.

Documents Required

  • The provisional admission letter from the host institute in the Netherlands stating the conditional acceptance of the candidate in the course.
  • An official result of an English language test (TOEFL/IELTS) if English is not the candidates native language. ( The test score should not be older than two years as it is then invalid).
  • A letter from the employer endorsing the study plans and guaranteeing that the salary will continue to be paid and the job will be held during the candidates study period.
  • A copy of a passport that should be valid for the whole study period.
  • Certified/attested copies of educational records from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan www.hec.gov.pk
  • One current photo.
  • A copy of the birth certificate ( if it is in Urdu, then with an English translation). A  copy of the birth certificate, legalised by the Netherlands Embassy in Islamabad, is required if the applicant’s stay in the Netherlands is more than three months duration.

General Information

The Netherlands Embassy checks the application and may reject on formal and or local criteria. Two documents that a lot of applicants leave out are the TOEFL or IELTS Test and a legalised copy of their birth certificate. Legalised copy of birth certificate is required for if the applicants stay in the Netherlands extends three months duration.

Application forms which meet all of the relevant criteria will be forwarded to the Netherlands Organisation for International Co-operation in Higher Education (NUFFIC). NUFFIC is administering the programmes on behalf of the Minister for Development Cooperation. The Dutch providers of education and training programmes will be in charge of the logistics involved in the award of fellowships.
