Minister Van Middelkoop visits Pakistan

The Ministers visit was upon the invitation of the Pakistani authorities, talks were held on the subject of enhancing the co-operation between NATO and Pakistan. Both parties co-operate in the frontier area to combat the crossing of Taliban fighters. The Pakistan army is currently executing an offensive in its frontier area against Muslim extremists.

Minister van Middelkoop spoke with his Pakistani colleague, the Chief of the Army Staff and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. During the meetings he emphasized the importance of effective combined action in the frontier area: "Co-operation with Pakistan is indispensable for achieving our goals in Afghanistan."

During his visit Minister Van Middelkoop spoke to several Pakistani military leaders.
