Human Rights Day

On 10 December 2009, on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, the Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands and UNIFEM hosted a discussion forum on the issue of ‘domestic violence’. Read more...

Civil society, government officials and other stakeholders participated in this discussion forum.

This interactive and participatory forum was organised to mark the International day for Human rights and the 30th Anniversary of the Convention for the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) ratified by Pakistan in 1996. This discussion on Domestic violence was held to support the ongoing debate around the Domestic Violence Bill.

Member of National Assembley Sherrri Rehman and the DG for gender Mr Mohammad Ali were present at this occasion and were invited to open the discussion. The Ambassador (designate) for the Kingdom of the Netherlands HE Joost Reintjes spoke about the Netherlands and their stance on Human Rights. He also explained that every Embassy worldwide would be involved in some projects today to highlight the situation and create awareness.

Key speakers from Civil Society and the Parliament discussed best practices on which Pakistan should build its implementation of its commitment to the elimination of violence against women they also made recommendations on how to proceed with the Domestic Violence Bill in Pakistan.
